Vancouver Bloedel Conservatory with Dani Collins

 Vancouver Bloedel Conservatory

We’re well into the gloom of autumn here in Western Canada and even had a light dusting of snow, so I’m not doing much gardening right now, but this year was not my best gardening effort anyway.

I usually like to make up a few pots for the deck, including herbs, and plant some peas or beans or tomatoes.

This year, however, I had ten books release plus a series of novellas in German. It’s been absolute madness while I also completed and turned in seven more new books.

I jokingly told my husband I was letting my gardens ‘lie fallow’ which means I did next to no weeding and zero planting. I completely forgot to pick out my garlic from the previous fall!

I also did a lot of traveling this year, as a sort of reward for all those books. Fun fact: The book I’m promoting today is my 60th Harlequin!

We’re heading to Hawaii to celebrate that, but when we can’t get away somewhere tropical, we like to visit places like the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver.

This was a blustery March day with a wind that had us dreaming of spring. We spent a wonderful hour communing with the birds and finished off with lunch at a microbrewery.

I wish I could offer tips on creating a garden like this for yourself, but I think it involves hiring professional horticulturists and avian keepers. Which my hero probably has in his palace since it’s on a fictional island somewhere near Iceland!

  4. What a beautiful place and no need to feel bad about your own garden as you have achieved such a lot this year. Congratulations, and thanks for visiting my tiny blog and saying such nice things about my cards. I feel my garden has been neglected this year and I haven't got your excuse. My current urgent job is to bring my succulents in from the wet and cold of our November weather xx

  9. I'm not much of a gardener, either. Sometimes it is best to let things lie fallow until you have the energy to tackle them.

    1. right? I enjoy being outside and puttering, but honestly, I usually wind up with an injury and no real harvest or flowers so it's best left to the professionals, lol

  14. I think you can't always do "everything at once". This year the garden seems to have taken a back seat to your books, but that sounds like a great achievement. Enjoy it (and Hawaii)! There will be more time for the garden again at some point.
Next fall we have a good chance of coming to Vancouver - at least that's the plan. I don't know yet whether we'll visit the Vancouver Bloedel Conservatory - it depends on the weather and the time we have. (Bloedel Conservatory sounds funny to me as a German speaker, by the way, because in our language a "Blรถdel" is someone who is stupid... or at least a comedian ;-) I assume it's a family name in this case?)
    Warm greetings from Austria, Traude
